The Aberdeen Community Association has been established to
- provide a channel for communication between Aberdeen residents and the City of Kamloops to ensure the Aberdeen Plan is implemented as planned or revised;
- to implement the Aberdeen Community Association Strategic Plan (to follow).
- provide for community input on the Aberdeen proposed development, as well as other issues that may arise;
- the opportunity for Aberdeen residents to celebrate their community, plan and work together on community projects, issues and events;
- create a healthy community in view of the growing population;
- all community associations serving Kamloops on areas of mutual interest to build, leverage, and share community assets and talent and to ensure all communities mutually benefit from this cooperation;
- promote, co-ordinate and manage all services provided by the Society;
- and do all other things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the purposes of the Society.
The Executive wish to express their gratitude to Anna Evenrude for having had the vision to establish the Aberdeen Community Association. We fully recognize that, without Anna's hard work and tenacity, there would be no association. It is exciting to see her vision starting to sprout wings and fly.
We are also indebted to Brian Robinson for his leadership as acting Chair of the original organizational committee and for his groundwork on the draft Constitution & Bylaws and draft Strategic Plan.
Although Anna and Brian are unable at this time to continue working on the Executive, we are happy to know they continue to take an interest in our Association's activities, and look forward to their active participation if and when possible.
We also wish to thank Drew Stainton from Information Wranglers for building our website, and the City of Kamloops for their support and encouragement: in particular Clint Andersen, Health & Wellness Coordinator; Randy Lambright, Community Planning Supervisor; and David Trawin, Director of Development and Engineering Services. We acknowledge with thanks a startup grant of $500.00 from the City.
